Bec has spent quite some time travelling in the USA. She even married her husband in beautiful San Francisco simply because they love it there so much. When I asked Bec where she’d like to go for lunch on her Day in the Life, she expressed how much she missed being on that side of the world and decided only one place would successfully satisfy those American Cravings.

Mighty Mighty.

Mighty Mighty is like a king among men in the restaurant business. It’s large inside with an abundance of both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior design is bold and confident and gutsy. It doesn’t conform to the usual look of other restaurants in the area but the feel is bang on the mark of everything good about dining out. Mighty Mighty delivers  much pleasure and happiness to my eyes and appeals to my quirkiness with that brilliant cowboy portrait on the back wall.

The selection of imported beers is both excellent and overwhelming which is where the friendly and patient staff come in. I was feeling extremely indecisive when I hit the bar for a cold one and when I saw the long list of options, I was flawed. I couldn’t choose. The lovely young girl at the bar was helpful, enthusiastic and extremely patient while I asked questions, read bottles and got distracted by the colourful and creative labels. I take my hat off to the staff at Mighty Mighty. All of the people we encountered during our visit were full of energy, smiles and most importantly knowledge about the food & beverages they were serving us.

The menu is full of mouth-watering options like jalapeno poppers, popcorn shrimp, jambalaya and ribs, just to name a few. We decided on 1 serve of Texan style soft tacos with pulled smoked brisket, tomatillo relish and cilantro salad, 1 order of a pulled pork Boston butt roll with slaw, mayo and fries and 1 serve of Mighty Mighty hot wings, originally ordered Holy Roller (hot) but soon downgraded to Politically Correct (mild) with Holy Roller sauce on the side after some sound advice from a staff member.

The meals came out looking truly gorgeous and immediately secured a little home in my heart before I even took a bite. When I did actually taste my dish (the pulled pork roll with slaw) it was culinary heaven. There was music, fireworks, my life flashing before my eyes. There were cherub angels playing little trumpets. It was like running on the beach at sunset with your lover. It was rainbows. I think I felt my heart swell in my chest and my brain swell in my skull.  If you don’t love food, you will never understand. If you love food, appreciate food, hold food in the highest regard, you may understand this feeling of tasting something so great. It’s not complicated or revolutionary or complex. It’s simple, perfectly executed, comforting, exciting, memorable, delicious food. I wanted it faster than I could consume it, I was ravenous for it. Every bite gave me the same feeling, the same joy, the same uncontrollable need for more.

From what the others told me, their dishes were also wonderful and delicious and satisfying. The food is hearty and a little messy at times, particularly when you can’t stop eating for long enough to clean yourself up. We had juicy, saucy mess everywhere! I asked Darren how he liked his hot wings and his response came quickly and happily “So good! Messy. But so good!”.

Mighty Mighty, we salute you!
